Book Blog Attraction

Musing Mondays is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading.

This week’s musing, courtesy of http://readbookswritepoetry.blogspot.in, asks:

What attracts you to a book blog? What puts you off in a book blog? Do you share personal stuff on your book blog?

Why, the books of course! :)

In all seriousness though, it’s a number of things. I’m a visual person so blog design is biggie with me. In keeping with visual, I also really like those who do vlogs. I think it makes it more personal because I can actually see and hear from the person behind the writing. I also like those that do things besides reviews. Don’t get me wrong, I love the reviews, but if that’s all there is, I find myself skipping over it at times because the books don’t always appeal to me.

As for turn offs, like I said, pure reviews will find me skipping it over from time to time. I also don’t like those that hardly ever post. I know life happens and I’m not expecting daily posts, but if it’s been a month since the last post, I will most likely unsubscribe. I also don’t like those that post a bazillion times a day. I follow several blogs and it’s very time-consuming to keep up with everything. Therefore, if you post 10+ times daily, you’ve lost a follower.

As for personal posts, I actually quite like them. It’s a peek at what they’re like outside of the blogosphere. It makes me feel like I know the person better.

I do agree that you have to mix the reviews up with some other stuff..keep it interesting!

Of course it’s the books, lol. You have a cool layout! I’m following you on Twitter!!!

I had not thought about the posting a zillion times a day. I, like you follow more than one blog, so trying to visit more than once a day, is a bit much, I agree. As far as gettin’ up close and personal, I do that once in awhile.

      Hi Ann,

It can be very frustrating to find time to read a lot of posts daily. I usually check my reader 2-3 times a day and if I find the same blog is posting several times within the day, I move on.

Yeah I need variety too. I try to put tours, giveways and everything to break from all the reviews. here’s my Musing

I actually am not big on vlogs. I like to visit my internet in silence or with some music. If I have to turn on a video to find out what someone thinks of a book I am interested in I usually go to the next blog.

I really like your answer! You’ve said what I wanted to say. Because I don’t have a book-specific blog, I have pages for my reading.

Your answer is different from mine. Here is my post:

I love a blog with a good layout – it inspires me to check out more of the older posts. Also I can’t read reviews only book blogs, in fact, I only ever read reviews if I’ve already read the book.

    • Ashley Montgomery Says:

I read reviews of a book I haven’t read if it sounds interesting, as long as there aren’t any spoilers. If I’ve read a book, I definitely read other’s views of it. I like to know what it had to offer to other people.
