Christmas Cleanup

Tackle It Tuesday

Thanks for joining me for Tuesday Tackle hosted by www.5minutesformom.com. Each week we gather to discuss a problem that needs to be tackled. Come link up with us and join the fun!

This week I’m working on cleaning up from Christmas. I have paper, boxes, bags, etc. that need to be disposed of. I have leftovers that need to be distributed. I also have the regular cleanup to do such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, etc. from where everyone was in. I hope to get it all done by this weekend so I can enjoy my New Year‘s.

What about you? What are you working on this week?

This week I’m decorating the inside. We’re going to pick out a tree tomorrow. I refuse to use an artificial tree. It just seems wrong. We’ll work on decorating it over the next few days. I also have knickknacks, banners, garland, etc. to put out. I’ll post pics when I’m done.

Next week I’m finishing up my holiday shopping.

This week I’m tackling putting up the outside Christmas Decorations. We’re a little later than usual this year but due to company, work and weather, it was hard for my boyfriend and I to find time to get it done. I actually did get my wreath for my front door hung over the weekend. However, we still have lights to put up and lawn decorations to get situated. I also have to wrap the red garland around the posts on the front porch and the green around the lamp posts at the garage and put the bows on. This year I’m also going to do the mailbox the same as the lamp posts. I also need to buy a Christmas garden flag.

Stay tuned as next week I’m working on the inside!

Thanksgiving is over. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are over. Now it time to officially get back to the old routine.

And so begins time to decorate and get ready for Christmas. This week I’m working on putting the house back together from Thanksgiving and getting it ready to decorate. Unfortunately, I have two houses to work on as I do my boyfriend’s as well so this project will probably go through next week. I’ve got to get everything scrubbed from floor to ceiling and get the decorations up.

Moving

Welcome to this week’s Friday 5! The Friday 5 is hosted by scrivener from www.f.riday5.com. Each week we gather to answer five questions about a topic. Come join the fun!

This week’s topic is: Moving

1. When did you last move residences?

I have never moved. I have lived in the same house all of my life.

2. What song leaves you completely unmoved even though it seems everyone else is moved by it?

Christmas songs. Maybe they mean more to others than me?

3. On what kinds of mornings is it easiest for you to jump out of bed and get moving?

When I have an appointment for something. Especially when it involves Avon.

4. What object do you get most annoyed about when people move it without letting you know?

Anything. I can’t stand for someone to move something of mine without asking or telling me.

5. In what way are you waiting on someone else to make a move?

I’m not really.

Holiday Traditions

As it is getting closer to the holidays, I am starting to think more and more about traditions.

I remember when I was a little girl, my grandmother and mother would decorate from floor to ceiling with garland, candles, ribbons, pictures, knickknacks, etc. It looked like a Christmas factory blew up at my house. I would always get to place the star or angel on top the tree.

I also remember them turning the Christmas music up and baking all kinds of goodies. There were cakes, pies and candies galore!

On Christmas Eve I would get to open one present. I always wanted to open the biggest one but I was limited to a small one. Then I would have to be made to go to bed early but I hardly ever slept. I would toss and turn and wake up frequently throughout the night. I was just too wound up to sleep. I would get up bright and early so I could eat a big breakfast and open presents. There would be paper and bows flying everywhere.

One of my favorite things about the whole ordeal was that my cousins would come and spend a whole week with us. We didn’t get to see each other very often so the time was treasured when we were together.

As I got older, I was allowed to start helping with the decorating and the baking of the goodies. I no longer had to be lifted up to place the topper on the tree. I could do it all on my own. I also didn’t shake and rattle the presents anymore.

My grandparents are gone now and it’s just my mother and me. We still decorate and bake and we still open up a present on Christmas Eve. I also love to be surprised so I don’t want to rush the opening of the presents.

We’ve been left to carry on the family traditions and start our own. Somehow it’s just not the same. It’s funny the little things you miss such as the smell of the caramel icing for the applesauce cake or the taste of snow ice cream.

What about you? What are some of your favorite holiday memories? Do you carry on family traditions or have you started your own?
